Track and Field is one of our
favorites here at W. L. Donehower. Because this is a sport about
fractions of seconds and fractions of inches, your choice of
shoes needs to be exacting. You have to know what you’re
looking at and you have to get them on your feet; because if the
shoes don’t work for you, they won’t do much
for your performance. And who else is going to give you the kind of
advice we can? Almost nobody!
So
here are the basics:
TRAINING
SHOES
It is very important to have a good
training shoe that fits you properly. These are the workhorses that
will have to shield you from lots of day-in-and-day-out pounding.
There are loads of different ways that running shoes are
constructed, so be ready to talk about the specifics of what you do.
That way you have the best chance of getting features that match up
to those demands. And the fit part? Trust us. It’s as important to
us as it is to you.
Oh, and by the way, we
have over sixty models of running shoes in stock for men
and women, including widths and hard-to-find sizes. That’s a lot
of shoes.
RUNNING SPIKES
What events you pursue will largely determine what type of spiked
shoe you need, but a bit of a hint: high school athletes are often
called upon to compete in a range of events, so if you’re planning
to buy just one competition spike, there may be some compromising to
do. Which shoe suits which purpose – and what will suit your
purposes best overall - will take some discussion. And because we
work with all our customers one-on-one, we’ll spend as much time
as you need explaining the pros and cons of each shoe.
FIELD
SPECIALTY SHOES
This is the narrowest category in the shoe business. Really. Think
about what percentage of
the population needs a Shot/Discus shoe! So we are not going to
promise you loads of inventory here. We’re too honest to tell you
that. But we do stock specialty shoes – and we order a lot
of them for people. And you’re still going to get good information
about your options (and more accurate sizing) than from thumbing
through a magazine.
OF COURSE we stock the accessories
you need, like spike elements and wrenches and great socks
(see our sock
page!), etc., etc., etc.
It’s
worth the
trip
